Song of the Day: Forget me Nots

watch the soul train clip with us!

The song of the day is Forget me Nots by Patrice Rushen, as sung on Soul Train in ’82. A gorgeous groovy tune for any old time. Makes a pretty good lullaby too.

Bento Bunnies

How early moms in Japan must wake up to create these lovely lunches for their kids!

Hoppy Hallowe’en!

Happy Hallowe’en to you from the herd of us rabbits here at BunnyEars.tv! Enjoy the Halloween classic, The Monster Mash, by Bobby “Boris” Pickett. Recorded in 1962 and keeping us company on Halloween for 49 years now!

Pancake Bunnies (pink, even)

Look what we’re gonna be cooking up this Sunday morning (after a long and no doubt exhilarating Nuit Blanche here in Toronto).

One of our loyal bunnyears fans sent word to us about Jenni Price, a talented illustrator and an unbelievable pancake artist.

You can follow her step-by-step tutorial for making these bunny treats here.  Wouldn’t the world be a better place if these were served for lunch at the United Nations. Eh???

show us your bunny!

Hey all you illustrators, cartoonists, and pencil waving animators, we have a cool bunny swap for you!

How about drawing up your very own bunny to put in THE spot of honour on BunnyEars.tv? Your bunny will go right in the frame (see below) for a whole week, and we will twitter away all about it! Great publicity for you and a great way for us to keep our site um, hopping with new bunnies. There’s only one rule, and that’s to keep the bunny looking kid-appropriate (and not scary) ’cause we have lots of little viewers.

Send in your bunnies to judy@bunnyears.tv. We will post all non-scary entries on our blog and will rotate them in the frame in weeks to come.

Ha Ha This-a-Way!

Click here to listen to HaHaThisAway

Reading between the words of this song, one can imagine  that folk singer Lead Belly may have known some hard times as a child.  The “Ha Ha this-away” chorus seems like a kid’s way of saying “I was ok anyway”, and the line  “man oh man” acknowledges the tedium of  being a kid sometimes.   This song was originally recorded in the 1940′s and made available to BunnyEars.tv thanks to the kindness of Smithsonian Folkways.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.

When I was a little boy, little boy, little boy,
When I was a little boy 12 years old.
Papa went and left me, left me,
Papa went and left me so I was told.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.

Mama come and got me, she got me, got me,
Mama come and got me to save my soul.
Mama never whooped me, whooped me,
Mama never whooped me so I was told.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.

I went to school, went to school, went to school boys,
Went to school when I was 12 years old.
I obeyed the rules, the rules, the rules boys,
I obeyed the rules as I was told.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.

I went to a teacher, teacher, teacher,
Went to a teacher to save my soul.
Teacher was a preacher, preacher, preacher,
Teacher was a preacher so I was told.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.

I liked my lesson, lesson lesson,
Liked my lesson to save my soul.
Wasn’t that a blessing, blessing, blessing,
Wasn’t that a blessing so I was told.

Ha ha this-a way,
Ha ha that-a way,
Ha ha this-a way,
Man oh man.
